The Coffee Cup Crusade

In the spring and summer of 2005, following the cancellation of The Rick Emerson Show, a rare group of people came together, assembled by their belief in the power of fandom.

Determined to make their voices heard, defiant in their conviction that radio should offer something other than lowest-common-denominator swill, these stalwart fighters created a now-legendary show of fan force...The Coffee Cup Crusade.

Coordinated and sheparded by Aaron "Geek in the City" Duran, The Coffee Cup Crusade had a simple message: Bring back the Rick Emerson Show. Their method was equally simple: a boatload of coffee cups, delivered by hand, by mail, and by the hundreds...all arriving at the Portland headquarters of Entercom Communications.

Within days, the local press and web community had begun following the campaign, and the word spread like wildfire. One company that took notice was CBS Radio. Such was their curiosity that the corporation actively sought a meeting with Rick Emerson. When that meeting transpired, the company's first words were, "How do you explain the incredible loyalty of your audience?"

That loyalty has now paid its dividends, as The Rick Emerson Show returns to Portland radio...bigger, bolder, and more plugged into this fantastic city than ever before.

For those who were there, The Coffee Cup Crusade will forever be a defining moment of fan-based power. For those who come after, it will be legend.

Hail the Coffee Cup Crusade...you are victorious.
